Panchkula: Ahead of the Panchkula municipal corporation elections, BJP mayoral candidate Sham Lal Bansal outlined an ambitious roadmap for city's development, claiming there was no shortage of funds and that the Haryana govt was fully committed to Panchkula's growth.Addressing residents during a series of public meetings and door-to-door campaigns across multiple wards, he announced that around Rs 200 crore would be spent to permanently resolve rainwater drainage issues using machine-bound spiral lining technology. Additionally, five sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 76 MLD will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 160 crore to strengthen the sewerage system, he added.To improve traffic flow, he said two flyovers would be constructed on NH-5 near Burj Kotian and HMT at a cost of about Rs 80 crore, connecting sectors 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the Pinjore-Kalka urban belt. Key dividing roads between sectors will be upgraded into model roads with an investment of Rs 50 crore, while another Rs 40 crore will be spent on road repair, beautification and strengthening.Bansal also proposed a second lane and an HL bridge near Nada Chowk on the road connecting Sector 23 to NH-7, with an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore.
Another Rs 30 crore will be spent on constructing a new bridge alongside the existing one over the Ghaggar to ease traffic congestion.To streamline dairy operations, Bansal said dairies would be shifted out of municipal area to a proposed dairy complex in Sukhdarshanpur village at a cost of Rs 30 crore. Emphasising sanitation, Bansal announced a Rs 100 crore plan for door-to-door waste collection, segregation and processing. He also proposed the use of modern sweeping machines for better road cleanliness. Additionally, around Rs 100 crore will be spent on the rejuvenation and beautification of two seasonal water channels passing through the city
