ASI suspended after video shows him ‘buying’ narcotics
Abohar: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in the Abohar town of Fazilka district was suspended and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after a video showing him allegedly conducting a drug transaction from inside a Dial 112 police emergency response vehicle went viral on social media.In the 12-second video, a Punjab Police Dial 112 vehicle is seen parked on the road. During this time, two youths arrive on a motorcycle and stop right next to the vehicle. The footage captures ASI Balwinder Singh, sitting in the vehicle, buying suspected contraband from the motorcycle-borne youths. It is alleged that the officer purchased chitta for Rs 500.The alleged drug transaction was video recorded by a bystander.Ashwant Singh, superintendent of police, Abohar, said, "The video is about 4-5 days old. An investigation revealed that within the jurisdiction, ASI Balwinder called a known associate, Jashan, to summon him. He then purchased a narcotic substance from the young man.
