Odisha CM lays foundation stone of water supply project, opens trauma centre in Sambalpur

Sambalpur/Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone of a water supply project during his visit to Sambalpur on Sunday. The Rs 451.2-crore project will provide 24X7 purified drinking water in Sambalpur. Majhi also inaugurated an advanced trauma care center and an OPD building at the district headquarters hospital in Sambalpur.As part of the water supply project, around 340km of pipelines will be laid throughout Sambalpur city and an intake well and two modern water treatment plants will also be constructed. A treatment plant with a capacity of 65 million litres per day (MLD) will be built in Sambalpur and another with a capacity of 35 MLD will be set up in Burla, official sources said.

“This large-scale project will benefit around five lakh residents across 41 wards of Sambalpur city. Currently, there is a daily shortage of approximately 30 million litres of water during the dry season. Once the project is completed, it will resolve the drinking water issue,” Majhi said.He added, “This project is part of Centre’s ‘AMRUT 2.0’ initiative under the ‘Drink from Tap’ scheme, enabling residents to drink directly from the tap without the need for additional filtration.”
While inaugurating the trauma center, Majhi said, “There is a need to establish trauma care centers in every district due to rising accident rates. The primary goal is to offer prompt and assured medical treatment to accident victims.”He added, “Steps are being taken to open a total of 89 advanced trauma care centers in the state, which will help reduce accident-related fatalities and injuries while ensuring timely and quality medical care for the injured.”He also emphasised the govt’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure by upgrading various hospitals.Additionally, a CSSD (central sterile supply department) building, built at Rs 2.53 crore, was also inaugurated. This facility will ensure the cleaning and sterilisation of various medical materials and equipment using modern systems.
