KOCHI: The woman who first filed a sexual assault complaint against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil posted a message on social media on Sunday, thanking God for giving the victims the courage to persist in the face of darkness.
The post appeared after news of the dramatic arrest of the MLA on Sunday.
"Thank you, God, for giving us the courage to validate ourselves despite all the pain, judgment, and betrayal we endured. You saw what was done in the dark. You heard the cries that never reached the world," she wrote in her Facebook post, which saw more than 1.9k likes, 560 comments, and 52 shares in nine hours.
She said faith held the victims together when their bodies were violated and when their unborn babies were taken away by force.
"May our angel babies forgive us from heaven, especially for trusting the wrong persons and choosing a man unworthy of being our child's father," she posted, adding, "Mammas will carry you in our hearts until we meet again. Kunjatta, mamma loves you to the moon and back."
She was the first to approach police with a complaint alleging that she was sexually assaulted multiple times and was forced to abort her pregnancy.
Her complaint led to Nemom police in Thiruvananthapuram registering the first case against the MLA.
The case includes charges of rape and coercion to terminate a pregnancy.
She submitted her complaint to the chief minister, who forwarded it to police.
