Man: Evicted from home by parents after wife gave birth to girl twins
Bhubaneswar: A man has lodged a complaint with Mahanga police in Cuttack district accusing family members of evicting him and his wife from home after she gave birth to girl twins last month, police officers said on Sunday. In his complaint filed on Saturday, Chandrasekhar Jena (26), a farmer, accused his parents and sister of assaulting him and his wife, angry that she didn’t give birth to boys.“We got married four years ago and were blessed with twin daughters a month ago. But my parents and sister refused to accept them and assaulted us. They even threatened to kill the twins before throwing us out of the house,” Jena said. His wife, Parbati, said her efforts to sensitise her in-laws about gender equality, women’s empowerment and govt campaigns promoting welfare measures for girl children proved futile. “Their conduct shocked me. I am fortunate that my husband stands by me,” she said.Police have registered a case and began a probe. “We have served notices on the accused to appear at the police station for questioning. The charges are being verified,” Salipur SDPO Biranchi Pati said.
