Balasore: A man sustained critical injuries after being chased and attacked by unidentified miscreants in a loot attempt near Jamalpur bypass on NH-16 in Jaleswar, Balasore district, late Sunday night.
The victim, Arun Rout (52) of Banida village, was returning home from work when the incident took place. According to reports, three assailants on a motorcycle chased Arun, stabbed him multiple times, and fled with his mobile phone, ornaments, and Rs 15,000 in cash.
Locals found Arun bleeding profusely on the roadside and rushed him to a nearby hospital. As his condition worsened, he was first referred to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
Inspector-in-charge of Jaleswar police station Jayanta Kumar Behera said previous enmity might be the motive behind the attack. “The exact reason will be clear after we record the victim’s statement,” he added.
