Berhampur: Police on Sunday arrested two persons for alleged possession of two leopard skins under Jarada police station limits.
The accused were identified as Kesab Jamadar (34) of Badagaon in Gajapati district and Bira Jamadar (45) of Burutal in Ganjam district at Upper Burutal area.
Police said two full-size leopard skins, two live hand-made bombs and a sword were seized from their possession.
SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said a team of Jarada police rushed to Burutal area after getting a tip-off on dealing of leopard
skins. “Two men were spotted running towards the jungle at the hilltop. The police team chased them. The accused pushed the police team. One of them swayed a sword and threatened police personnel. Both accused were nabbed with much difficulty,” he said.
Search led to recovery of two gunny bags containing two full-size leopard skins. Two live bombs were recovered from Kesaba
and a sword from Bira. The accused failed to produce any licence or permit for possession of the leopard skins, sword or explosive materials.
A case was registered against the duo under different sections of BNS, Wildlife Protection Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act at Sarada police station.
Investigation was on to find out the sources of the leopard skins, said the SP.
