Twisha’s mom-in-law Giribal Singh, former dist judge, arrested by CBI

Bhopal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested former district judge Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of deceased Twisha Sharma, after nearly seven hours of questioning at her residence in Bhopal in connection with the investigation into the death case and allegations of dowry harassment.Earlier in the morning, before the CBI team arrived at her residence in Bag Mughaliya Extension, Giribala Singh was seen feeding stray dogs outside her house, apparently following her usual daily routine. Her anticipatory bail had been cancelled late on Wednesday night by a bench of Madhya Pradesh high court.A few hours later, investigators reached the residence and began questioning her.According to officials, the CBI team questioned Giribala Singh at her house before taking her into custody later in the evening. She was subsequently taken to the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), where she is expected to remain under agency watch in a ‘guesthouse’ until being produced before a competent court on Friday for remand proceedings.Officials said the investigating agency intimated the district judge about her custody on Thursday evening. Sources indicated that Giribala Singh and Samarth are likely to be produced before the court together, as Samarth’s police remand is also scheduled to end on Friday.The case pertains to the death of Twisha Sharma and allegations of dowry-related harassment, which are currently being investigated by the CBI following directions of the MP high court. Giribala Singh has been booked under provisions related to dowry death, cruelty by husband or relatives, common intention, and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act.Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has directed both the victim’s family and the family of those under investigation to refrain from giving media interviews during the course of the probe to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
