Panic gripped a prominent private hospital in Bairagarh after a fire allegedly broke out suddenly in one of the wards on Thursday afternoon. Patients were shifted to safer wards as fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control within around 40 minutes.According to officials, smoke was noticed rising from a ward of the hospital located near Sehore Naka around 3.30pm, triggering panic among patients and attendants. The hospital staff immediately alerted the municipal corporation fire brigade. Two fire tenders reached the spot and began firefighting operations.Fire personnel broke the glass panels on the second floor of the hospital to access the affected area and douse the flames. Officials said the hospital’s inbuilt fire safety system also got activated and water leakage from the sprinklers helped prevent the fire from spreading further.Patients and attendants reportedly raised alarm after noticing the smoke and flames. However, the hospital management stated that no patients were admitted in the ward where the fire broke out. As a precautionary measure, nearby patients were shifted downstairs to safer areas.
According to hospital management, sparks allegedly originated from a bed fitted with motor in the ward and spread to the mattress placed on a bed. The mattress caught fire and flames spread into an AC fitted in the ward. Due to timely activation of the sprinkler system and prompt response by the fire brigade, major damage was averted, they said
