Bhopal: An e-rickshaw driver created a major ruckus outside the old Police Control Room on Thursday afternoon, alleging harassment by traffic personnel. He alleged that, upset over the police action, his wife consumed a poisonous substance. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media platforms.
According to reports, the driver accused traffic police of stopping him forcibly and threatening to issue a challan. Eyewitnesses said that after learning about his wife's condition, the driver allegedly pushed over parked police motorcycles outside the control room and chased policemen with a screwdriver in hand. Passers-by intervened and counselled him, following which he rushed his wife to JP Hospital for treatment. Doctors later stated that her condition was out of danger.

The driver claimed that he was heading to the market with his wife when traffic personnel stopped him near the Police Control Room and threatened to issue a challan, leading to an argument. During the altercation, his wife allegedly consumed a poisonous substance (rat poison) kept in her bag. As the police personnel went inside the control room, the driver allegedly knocked down their parked motorcycles in anger before taking his wife to the hospital.
Officials presented a different version of events. They said the e-rickshaw driver was carrying passengers and jumped a red light at the Police Control Room trisection. When stopped, he initially left the spot and later returned with his wife, allegedly to pick a quarrel with the police.
