Nagaland inks MoU with IMD to boost weather forecasting
Dimapur: The Nagaland higher education department has signed an MoU with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), ministry of earth sciences, at the directorate of higher education in Kohima to strengthen weather forecasting capabilities in the state, particularly in the areas of urban meteorology, disaster preparedness and agricultural advisories.The initiative aims to enhance public safety and safeguarding lives and property.

The MoU, duly vetted and approved by the Nagaland govt, was signed in the presence of higher education minister Temjen Imna Along; secretary of higher and technical education Sarita Yadav, ex-officio director of higher education V Lovitoly Sema, and IMD representatives.Under the ‘Mission Mausam Scheme’ initiative of the Govt of India, the collaboration provides for the installation of one X-Band Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) at Dimapur Govt College.The institutional cooperation between IMD and the higher education department will focus on promoting academic engagement, research collaboration and capacity building in meteorological and atmospheric sciences.
