Direct flights to 4 cities to be discontinued from Indore airport
Indore: Starting March 30, direct flights to four cities—Jammu, Nashik, Udaipur, and Bhubaneswar—will be discontinued from Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport. The airport's summer schedule will not have any new destinations either. The decision, taken by Indigo Airlines as part of 10% nationwide reduction in its flight operations, comes right at the onset of peak vacation season. Experts noted that these flights were consistently seeing high occupancy rates. The discontinuation of these direct links is expected to cause significant hardship for travellers from Malwa region. The stopping of Jammu flight will impact thousands planning visits to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and Kashmir valley. The cancellation of Nashik flight will make journeys to Shirdi and Trimbakeshwar longer and more expensive, forcing travellers to rely on time-consuming rail or road routes. The Udaipur flight was a popular choice during wedding season, while Bhubaneswar (which operated as a linked flight to Jammu) provided a vital link to Eastern India. Travellers headed to these four cities will now have to book connecting flights via Delhi, Mumbai, or Ahmedabad, significantly increasing both travel time and ticket costs.
