Lok Adalats settle over 1 lakh cases across MP, awards top Rs 800 crore
Bhopal: More than 1.14 lakh cases were settled across the state in Lok Adalats held on Saturday, with awards exceeding Rs 800 crore granted to litigants.
MP high court chief justice Sanjeev Sachdeva inaugurated the statewide exercise, which saw 1,459 benches constituted to facilitate settlements through mutual consent. In addition, eight benches of the high court functioned at its Jabalpur, Indore and Gwalior benches during the proceedings.
In Bhopal, 61 benches handled cases through the day, disposing of 17,517 matters through mediation. Awards worth Rs 39 crore were passed in favour of litigants.
Among the cases disposed of, 2963 were pending cases and 14,554 pre-litigation cases, 3,101 pending cases and 14,942 pre-litigation cases were put up for settlement in the Lok Adalat.
Principal district judge, Bhopal, Manoj Kumar Shrivastava inaugurated the Lok Adalat by lighting of ceremonial lamps and garlanding the statue of Devi Saraswati.
Compoundable criminal cases and civil disputes are taken up for settlement through mutual agreement of the litigants at the Lok Adalats.
