Duped of 2.5L, groom’s family help in nabbing ‘Looteri Dulhan’ gang

Bhopal: An alleged case of a “Looteri Dulhan” surfaced in Nazirabad area of Bhopal, where a gang allegedly duped a farmer’s family of Rs 2.5 lakh by arranging a marriage and then making the bride disappear within eight days of the wedding. Nazirabad police on Sunday registered a cheating case against the woman and two middlemen involved in arranging the marriage.
The duped family contact the accused luring them to marry the woman to another man and called them after which police nabbed them. The accused middlemen revealed that they had paid Rs 30000 to the woman.
According to police, complainant Ramchandra, a farmer and resident of Nazirabad area, was looking for a bride for his younger brother Sarwan. During the search, the family came in contact with a woman living in Mandideep, who was introduced as a widow whose husband had died of cancer four years back and who wanted to remarry.
During negotiations, two men identified as Roop Singh and Ravi allegedly told the family that they would have to pay Rs 2.5 lakh to get Sarwan married to the woman. Trusting them, the family paid the amount, following which the marriage was solemnised at a temple in the last week of April.
After the wedding, the woman came to her in-laws’ house in Nazirabad and stayed there for around eight days before suddenly going missing. When the family contacted the middlemen and demanded their money back, they allegedly refused to return the amount.
After repeated efforts to trace the woman failed the family laid a trap and called the woman and the middleman through a relative on pretext of marrying the woman to another man. Acting on Ramchandra’s complaint, Nazirabad police reached the spot and nabbed them. Police have registered a case of cheating against the woman, Roop Singh and Ravi.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the 24-year-old woman is originally from Narmadapuram district and currently resided in Mandideep. She allegedly received Rs 30000 cut for marrying Sarvan.
Nazirabad SHO Durjan Singh Barkade said that police have arrested the accused and investigating the case further. The accused Roop Singh and Ravi work as taxi drivers and operated from railway station area.
