Fraudster's aide in CBI custody

BANGALORE: The Bangalore police on Friday arrested an advocate, said to be an associate of fraudster Karanakara Vijay who was arrested by the CBI, on charges of cheating a city businessman of over Rs 35 lakh.

BANGALORE: The Bangalore police onFriday arrested an advocate, said to be an associate of fraudster KaranakaraVijay who was arrested by the CBI, on charges of cheating a city businessman ofover Rs 35 lakh.Kengeri police arrested S.K. Paramesh, a native ofAtini in Belgaum on Friday and produced him before court.Paramesh,posing as a liaison officer of BCC Shipping and Ship Building Company based inKolkata approached one Shivarudrappa in the city offering the latter to obtain aRs 150-crore electrical contract from the company on a commission basis of Rs2.5 crore. Paramesh then took an advance of Rs 10 lakh fromShivarudrappa.However, when Shivarudrappa made enquiries withofficials of the Kolkata-based company, they denied any knowledge of Parameshbeing authorised to collect funds. Paramesh then began to dodge Shivarudrappawho demanded that his money be returned.Later, Paramesh convincedShivarudrappa to pay a further Rs 25 lakh and offered a loan certificate (LC)from Pubjab National Bank, Ahmedabad worth Rs 93 lakh. The LC, however, wasfound to be fabricated and when Shivarudrappa confronted Paramesh, the latterlodged a complaint with the police.
However, the two decided to compromise thecomplaint was withdrawn.A few days later, when Shivarudrappademanded for the money, Paramesh along with four others threatened him atgun-point. Shivarudrappa managed to escape.A complaint was lodgedwith the Kengeri police which arrested Paramesh on Friday. Paramesh who waswanted by the CBI was questioned and also chargesheeted in two similarcases.
