Madhya Pradesh: Four arrested for consuming liquor on college campus; parents raise concern
BHOPAL: Days after a video allegedly showing youths consuming liquor in the parking lot of PM Shri Excellence Government Autonomous Degree College in Satna went viral on social media, police on Thursday night arrested four persons identified in the clip. The 15-second video, which surfaced earlier this week, triggered outrage among students and parents and raised questions over campus security. College authorities termed it a “serious matter” and said a high-level probe would be initiated to ascertain the facts.By Thursday, police confirmed the arrests of four youths — Suraj Sen, Ansh Gupta, Yuvraj Singh, and Adarsh Sen, all residents of Utaili. A statement issued by Kolgawan police said, “Acting on the complaint from the college administration, a case was registered and effective action was taken against the miscreants who misbehaved with security personnel, consumed liquor, and created nuisance in the college premises. The four accused were arrested and produced in court.”The statement also mentioned that a video apology was recorded, in which the accused sought forgiveness from the college management, students, and staff for their behaviour.Importantly, the college administration clarified to TOI that none of the arrested youths were students of the institution. “They are outsiders, not enrolled in the college,” officials confirmed, adding that security arrangements are being reviewed to prevent any recurrence.
The incident comes barely days after the college hosted academic programmes like ‘Yuva Sansad’, drawing attention to the contrast between its academic image and the controversy stirred by the viral clip. Parents and students expressed concern that such unchecked activities could damage the academic atmosphere and compromise safety on campus.Police said further investigation is underway to determine how the outsiders gained access to the premises. Meanwhile, the college management has sought detailed reports from its security agency and is expected to constitute a probe panel.
