Finance Ministry Official Killed, Wife Injured After BMW Hits Motorcycle In Delhi's Dhaula Kuan
NEW DELHI: A BMW crash in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan on Sunday claimed the life of senior finance ministry official Navjot Singh (57) and left his wife, Sandeep Kaur (50), critically injured. Police have arrested Gaganpreet Makkad (38), alleged to be behind the wheel, after her discharge from hospital on Monday. Sections of culpable homicide and destruction of evidence have been added to earlier charges of rash driving and negligence. The FIR cites Kaur’s statement that Makkad ignored her pleas for urgent medical help and deliberately delayed treatment, taking the couple to a small private hospital 22 km away in GTB Nagar, instead of a nearby facility. Kaur alleged her husband, who suffered severe head and leg injuries, was left unattended for long. Gaganpreet Makkad, however, told police she sought help with bystanders and transported the injured in a porter van. She has been remanded in two-day judicial custody while police probe the delay in medical care.
