Bengaluru-based fitness trainer on 1,000th straight 100km ride today
BENGALURU: As you are reading this, city-based fitness trainer Anil Kadsur will be on his 1,000th century ride in south Bengaluru. Yes, you read it right - Kadsur has been undertaking 100km rides every day since August 2, 2020.
It all started when a cycling club threw a 'Monsoon Challenge' of riding 100km for 10 days. While many riders did just that by utilising free roads during the unlock period, Kadsur went at it without stopping even for a day.
Asked if he would stop at 1,000, he said he would continue "till the almighty wishes". "I never thought I would come this far. I'll continue with century rides which are part of my lifestyle now. It's all about human potential."
For the record, Kadsur is far ahead of an Italian who has 643 century rides. Interestingly, he has gone on all the rides on his fixie bikes. "I have a fleet of six fixies and pick them by rotation," he said, adding that he starts his day at 3.50am and rides till 5am, after which he holds fitness sessions in south Bengaluru. He completes 80km by afternoon and covers another 20km by returning home in the evening. His average daily distance is 101km (it was 109km last year).
Kadsur has influenced 3,700 people who 'follow' him on an activity app where he records his rides. According to the app, his longest ride stands at 181.4km and the average elevation gain is 400m.
His century rides, which are synonymous with discipline and consistency, have inspired many riders, including fitness trainees who join him frequently. One such trainee - Varun Kamath, a techie - has completed 200 century rides and often accompanies Kadsur on Kanakapura Road. Kadsur won't forget this stretch for two reasons - riding a 5km loop on Kanakapura Road multiple times (totalling 25,000km) and being a victim of road rage twice there.
Looking back, Kadsur thanked his family for understanding his commitment to the routine. "I excuse myself from attending functions hosted away from the city."
The cycling community of Bengaluru will meet and greet Kadsur near Ganesha Temple in Jayanagar IV Block around 6am on Saturday.
