After Bengaluru techie death, another woman dies of 'dowry harassment'

BENGALURU: Police in Bengaluru have arrested a private company employee on charges of abetting the suicide of his wife at their home in Bagalagunte, in the north-west of the city.

The woman, identified as N Poojashri, died on Sunday. She is survived by her husband, J Nandish, and their two-year-old daughter.


According to police, Poojashri, who was from Bhadravati in Shivamogga district, married Nandish three years ago.

Investigators said she had frequently complained of dowry harassment by her husband and mother-in-law and alleged that Nandish assaulted her when she questioned his relationship with another woman.

Police said she hanged herself at her residence while her husband and daughter were out.

A case was registered following a complaint by Poojashri’s mother, B Chandrakala. Nandish, his mother Shantamma, and three others have been booked on charges of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.

Earlier in the week, A pregnant software engineer was found hanging in her BTM Layout I Stage residence late on Tuesday night. Police said no death note was recovered from the house.

The woman, identified as P Shilpa, 27, is survived by her parents, two sisters, and her son. Her mother, B Sharada, filed a complaint with Suddaguntepalya police, accusing Shilpa’s husband, Praveen and his mother, Shantavva, of abetting her suicide through dowry harassment.

Police have detained both Praveen and Shantavva. Investigators said Praveen, who once worked with a well-known software firm in Whitefield, lost his job last year and since then had been selling pani-puri in BTM Layout.
