7 of family die as tipper rams tractor near TB Dam

Koppal: Seven members of a family were killed and over 10 others injured after a speeding tipper truck rammed into a tractor near the second bridge of the Tungabhadra (TB) reservoir at Munirabad in Koppal taluk on Friday.According to the Munirabad police, the victims were residents of Marlayanahalli village in Kudligi taluk of Ballari district. They were returning home after attending the Huligemma Devi fair at Huligi when the accident took place. Preliminary investigations revealed that the tipper truck, allegedly travelling at high speed, hit the tractor from behind, causing the tractor to lose control and plunge off the bridge.Seven people travelling in the tractor died on the spot, while more than 10 others sustained serious injuries. The injured were shifted to govt hospitals in Koppal and Hosapete, while the bodies were moved to the Hosapete hospital mortuary.Police personnel from the Munirabad station, along with locals, launched rescue operations immediately after the incident. Bodies trapped beneath the overturned tractor were retrieved, and efforts were made to clear the blocked traffic in the area. The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be officially confirmed. A case has been registered at Munirabad police station.
