Bareilly: An elderly man in his late 60s was allegedly tied to an electric pole and publicly beaten by villagers after suspecting him of stealing wheat in Bareilly’s Pahrapur village under Hafiz Ganj police station on May 16 night.A video of the assault on Chandrasen, a resident of Pahrapur village, later circulated widely on social media, prompting police to act swiftly. However, cops refuted claims that he was tied to a pole.Chandrasen was hospitalised following the assault. Police said he allegedly broke into the house of one Ajay Kumar and stole a sack of wheat.“An FIR was registered against Chandrasen and he was subsequently taken into custody and sent to jail,” said SP (North) Mukesh Mishra.
