Gang rape accused with Rs 1L bounty held after exchange of fire with cops in Fatehpur

Prayagraj: A gang rape accused, carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, was injured and arrested after an encounter in Fatehpur late Wednesday.

A country-made pistol of 0.315 bore and four used and one unused cartridges were seized from him.

Police said a joint team of Khaga, Hathgaon, Thariyaon and the Special Operations Group (SOG) was conducting routine checks near Budhwan turn when they received an input that a criminal wanted in connection with gang rape, extortion and IT Act cases was hiding near Sasur Khaderi jungle.

Acting swiftly, cops launched a search operation and managed to surround Babloo Singhraur (29). However, he opened fire on the police. In retaliation, Singhraur was shot in both legs.

Police said Babloo, a resident of Khaga, faces six criminal cases in Fatehpur district. On April 26, a woman filed a case, accusing him of gang rape and extortion, alleging he threatened to circulate an obscene video he had filmed.
