Rain hits Ahmedabad after hot spell
Ahmedabad: After baking heat wilted Amdavadis over the past few days, a spell of unseasonal spell showers brought pleasant surprise on Tuesday. During the day, cloudy skies and light breeze, courtesy an upper cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan, provided relief. A thunderstorm then rumbled in, capping the day with light to moderate showers, mainly in the city's western areas like Navrangpura, Naranpura, Ambawadi, Bodakdev, Satellite, Sola, SG Highway, Makarba and peripheral areas. The weather flipped around 9pm, catching commuters unawares, with the sweeping rain creating puddles and affecting traffic movement. The day's maximum temperature was recorded at a comparatively low 39°C, 2.7 degrees lower than normal. The minimum was 27.9°C, 1.7 degrees higher than normal. The India meteorological department (IMD) has forecast a maximum temperature of 39°C on Wednesday. It also indicates that there will be no large change in the maximum temperature over the next seven days, likely keeping it above 40°C at isolated pockets.Other parts of the state, including Dahod, Mahisagar, Amreli and Rajkot, too received light to moderate rains. Fatepura and Jhalod in Dahod received 20mm and 14mm rainfall, respectively, till 6pm on Tuesday. In all, eight talukas received 1mm or more of rainfall. From May 9 to 11, Gujarat's coastal region is likely to experience hot and humid weather, IMD says. Rajkot recorded the highest maximum temperature at 42.3°C, followed by Surendranagar and Kandla (41°C) and Amreli (40.9°C).
