Pocso accused flees from custody, caught hours later
Ahmedabad: A 23-year-old man booked under the Pocso Act allegedly escaped from custody outside Vadaj police station late on Thursday night after pushing away two policemen. He was traced and re-arrested within hours, police said on Friday.According to Vadaj police inspector H G Garasia, the accused, Ashok Dabhani, a resident of Vadaj, had allegedly eloped with a 17-year-old girl three days ago. Following a complaint by the girl’s parents, police registered a case under the Pocso Act and detained Dabhani early on Thursday morning.Police said Dabhani was taken to Civil Hospital for a routine medical examination late at night. While returning to the police station, the accused allegedly took advantage of a brief lapse in vigilance while deboarding from the police vehicle and shoved aside two escorting policemen before fleeing.A search operation was immediately launched, and a team from Vadaj police later apprehended him again. Police will also file a complaint of fleeing from police custody.
