Yogi Adityanath led the condolences as women’s rights activist and social worker Asha Mishra passed away at the age of 78 in Lucknow on Friday morning.
Mother of senior journalist Pranshu Mishra, she is survived by her husband and two sons.
In a condolence message, the chief minister prayed for peace for the departed soul and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family.
Her last rites were performed at the Bhaisakund electric crematorium in the presence of family members, political leaders, senior journalists and social activists.
A teacher by profession, she had long been associated with progressive women’s movements and social causes in
Uttar Pradesh. She served as the former state president of the National Federation of Indian Women and was actively involved in teachers’ ‘ unions and campaigns related to the rights of women, economically weaker sections and marginalised communities.

Pankaj Chaudhary, UP Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, UP Congress president Ajay Rai and Congress leader Avinash Pande also paid tributes.
Senior journalists and social workers were also present during the cremation ceremony to pay homage to the departed activist.
