Gujarat RTE intake: First round over, 5,753 seats vacant
Ahmedabad: Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the first round of admissions for Class 1 was completed, with 77,925 students allotted seats in private schools across the state. However, around 5,753 seats remain vacant after the initial allocation. As per official instructions, parents of students who have been allotted seats must confirm admission by visiting the respective schools on or before May 12. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the allotted seat, and such students will not be considered in the subsequent rounds of admission.According to available data, around 2.4 lakh applications were received for 83,687 seats available under the 25% RTE quota in private schools. Out of these, 54,588 applications were cancelled, while 2,034 were rejected due to incomplete documents or ineligibility. After verification, 1.86 lakh applications were deemed valid and considered for the first round of seat allotment.Despite the large number of valid applications, several seats remained unfilled as some applicants did not opt for certain schools during the selection process. These unfilled seats will now be carried forward to the second round of admissions. Before the second round begins, parents will be given an opportunity to revise their school preferences. This step aims to ensure better utilisation of available seats. After this, fresh allotments will be made based on updated choices.Following the announcement of first-round results, many parents approached district education offices requesting changes in allotted schools. However, authorities clarified that admissions must be accepted only in the schools allotted through the official online process.
