Ahmedabad: Gujarat has emerged as the top-performing state among Category B states, winning five national awards under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana ‘Month of Solar – May 2026’ campaign organised by the Union ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE).The awards were presented by Union minister Prahlad Joshi at a ceremony held at Atal Akshay Urja Bhavan, New Delhi, marking two years of the scheme. On behalf of Gujarat, Shalini Agarwal, IAS, managing director, GUVNL, received the awards.Gujarat secured the No. 1 position across all four operational categories among Category B states and also won the ‘PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award’ for outstanding performance. The state topped in maximum consumer applications on the national portal, maximum rooftop solar installations commissioned, maximum DISCOM inspections completed, and the highest number of vendor registrations.In May 2026, Gujarat recorded 3,06,230 consumer applications, 35,311 rooftop solar installations, 42,554 DISCOM inspections and 210 new vendor registrations. Overall, Gujarat has crossed 10.66 lakh consumer applications and 6.81 lakh rooftop solar installations on the portal. Agarwal said, “Gujarat has achieved remarkable success in accelerating rooftop solar adoption. These awards belong to every citizen who has embraced solar energy.”
