Man thrashes dog repeatedly until it dies, case filed
Agra: A case has been registered against a man for allegedly beating a street dog on the road to death in Charthawal town of Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Tuesday.The incident, which took place around 7.45pm on Sunday, was captured on CCTV. The footage purportedly shows one Pankaj Pal, in his late 20s, from Mohalla Halwaiyan, grabbing the dog by its legs and repeatedly thrashing the animal against the road. The video has since been widely circulated on social media, sparking outrage among netizens.Local residents alerted the police, who took the critically injured animal to a veterinarian but it succumbed to its injuries.A police complaint was filed on Monday by local resident Shikha Arya, who accused Pal of "mercilessly beating the street dog to death without any provocation". She also alleged that Pal, a driver, has a history of cruelty towards animals.SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said, "Based on a complaint and CCTV evidence, a case has been registered against Pal under Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming animals) of BNS and Section 11(1)(A) of Animal Cruelty Act. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding accused."
