Agra: A court here has sentenced three brothers, in their late 30s, to life imprisonment for murdering their 52-year-old uncle by slitting his throat with a razor over a family dispute. Additional sessions judge Sanjay K Lal also imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on convicts Girish Kumar, Manish Kumar and Amit Kumar, residents of Soura village under Doki police station in Agra district
Additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Pradeep Sharama on Thursday said the brothers were in the habit of assaulting their elderly father for money, which was opposed by their uncle Mukesh Chand. Days before the murder, Chand reprimanded them for beating their father, following which they threatened.
On Oct 4, 2020, the three brothers accosted Chand in an agri field. While Manish and Amit restrained Chand, Girish slit his throat with a razor. Victim's wife, Imarti Devi, and son Neeraj Kumar, were at a distance and witnessed the crime. As they raised an alarm, the assailants fled.
Based on a complaint filed by Vinay Kumar, the couple's other son, a case under IPC Section 302 was registered. Girish and Manish were arrested on Oct 12, 2020, and Amit was nabbed three days later.
The murder weapon was also recovered.
"During trial, the prosecution presented eight witnesses, including family members and a doctor. Relying on witnesses' testimonies and post-mortem report, the court held the accused guilty and awarded life sentences on Wednesday," said ADGC.
