The railways plans to monetize the enormous amounts of data it collects daily as part of efforts to augment non-ticket revenues. For years, the railways has looked at freight revenue as a cash cow. Every time its finances came under pressure, it hiked tariff, resulting in a mass shift of goods to roads.
