Hulusi Akar told state-run Anadolu Agency on Wednesday that Turkish troops and other Nato soldiers were involved in the effort to restore calm. Turkish air force planes were meanwhile, evacuating Turkish citizens from Afghanistan, he said.

Read: At least three dead following anti-Taliban protests in Jalalabad

At least three people were killed and more than a dozen injured after Taliban militants opened fire during protests against the group in the western Afghan city of Jalalabad, two witnesses and a former police official told Reuters. The witnesses said the deaths took place when local residents tried to install Afghanistan's national flag at a square in the city, some 150 km (90 miles) to the east of Kabul.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has come under fire for the chaotic turn of events in Afghanistan, said a new "generous" refugee settlement program would allow up to 20,000 vulnerable Afghans to seek sanctuary in the UK in the coming years. Whenever such developments happen there is a tendency that prices of products go up, so there may be slight movement in prices of dry fruit coming into India only if this problem persists, he said.
