Cuba’s nat’l electric grid collapses, leaving millions without power
Cuba’s national electric grid collapsed on Monday, the country’s grid operator said, leaving around 10 million people without power amid a USimposed oil blockade that has crippled the island’s already obsolete generation system. Cuba’s grid operator UNE said on social media it was investigating the causes of the blackout, the latest in a series of widespread outages that stem for hours or days and that this weekend sparked a rare violent protest in the Communist-run country.
The US has tightened the screws this year on longtime foe Cuba since capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro — Cuba’s most important foreign benefactor — in early Jan. US President Trump cut off Venezuelan oil shipments to Cuba and threatened to slap tariffs on any country that sells oil to Cuba, strangling the island’s already antiquated grid. Cuba said Friday that it had entered into talks with the US with the hope of defusing the crisis.

A cause of death is still pending. But Paktyawal’s family said he was not ill.
“We still cannot understand how this happened. He was only 41 years old and was a strong and healthy man...,” the family said.
WH chief of staff Susie Wiles has breast cancer
Susie Wiles, the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff, has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer but will continue working, President Trump said Monday. Wiles, 68, has been a constant presence at Trump’s side since he returned to office in Jan 2025.
Republicans have credited her with bringing greater discipline to the White House. “Her strength and her commitment to continue doing the job she loves..., while undergoing treatment, tells you everything you need to know about her,” Trump said.
