Indian seafarers have shared their harrowing experiences after being detained in Iran amid the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict. Merchant Navy Captain Vijay Kumar described the time as “very painful,” recalling confusion at the start of hostilities, lack of money, and a grueling 1,800-kilometre taxi journey to safety. Oiler Masood Alam said the crew spent 50 days in an Iranian jail, leaving their families distressed. Despite these challenges, the seafarers expressed gratitude toward the Indian Embassy and the Government of India for their support, which enabled their safe return. Their ordeal highlights the dangers faced by merchant navy personnel in conflict zones and the importance of timely diplomatic and governmental intervention.
