Nagpur police announces ‘Covid Yoddha Yojana’ for community policing

A unique first of its kind ‘Covid Yodha Yojana’ plan revolving around community policing was announced by Nagpur City police commissioner BK Upadhyay recently to fight the Covid-19. Every police station would rope in 30-35 ‘Covid Yoddhas’ or volunteers who would work as ambassadors of ‘social distancing’. This initiative involves the community to bring down the pressure on the police department and involvement of reputed people from the community would take the message to a larger audience. Many steps are being taken, like 6 auto-rickshaws with PA systems at police stations and 5 people as Yoddhas in every beat.
