Gold rallies to 5-week top with Trump, Clinton in tight race
Gold jumped 3% to its highest in five weeks on Wednesday as early counting showed a close battle for the White House between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, pushing investors toward safe havens. With voting completed in more than two-thirds of the 50 US states, the race was too close to call in Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Virginia, states that could be vital to deciding which contender wins the presidency. Spot gold was up 2.9% at $1,311.80 an ounce by 0235 GMT. Bullion peaked at $1,312.80, its strongest since October 4.

Meanwhile, Asian shares tumble as Trump gains
Share benchmarks are tumbling across Asia after Donald Trump gained the lead in electoral votes, with 123 to Hillary Clinton's 97 as of 9pm EST (0200 GMT). Markets had opened solidly higher but quickly shed those gains, reflecting investor concern over what a Trump presidency might mean for the economy and trade. Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped 2.4 per cent to 16,777.85 as the US dollar sank against the Japanese yen, a trend that would be unfavorable to exporters. Hong Kong's Hang Seng plunged 1.7 per cent to 22,514.70. South Korea's Kospi index fell 1.4 per cent to 1,976.49 and Australia's S&P ASX/200 lost 1.2 per cent to 5,196.70.

The second son of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump tweeted a photo of a ballot with the oval over his father's name filled in on Tuesday. Why North Carolina got more attention than usual this election
Exit polls conducted by Edison Research for national media outlets suggest a tight finish between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump for the state's 15 electoral votes.

The polls suggest a majority of men back Trump, while Clinton won a majority among women — with the margins essentially even. The polls suggest women made up slightly more of the electorate.

About four out of five non-white voters backed Clinton, while about six out of 10 white voters supported Trump. But the exit polls don't offer definitive information about actual turnout among those groups, with the estimates again pointing to a close finish.

Nevada judge rejects Trump request for order over early voting
A Nevada judge rejected a request by Donald Trump's presidential campaign for an immediate order to be issued in its lawsuit over concerns about voting at a polling place in Las Vegas that remained open late last week.

Judge Gloria Sturman at the Clark County Court said that the order would potentially make public the identities of poll workers, which could put them at risk of harassment. Most voters are casting their ballots across the United States on Tuesday in the general election but Nevada and several other states allow early voting.

Donald Trump's campaign alleges polling place "anomalies" during early voting in Las Vegas
A lawsuit filed Tuesday in Nevada court asks that records from four early voting spots that allegedly stayed open too late last Friday be impounded and preserved.

Long lines kept polls open past the 7 PM posted closing time at locations that included a Mexican market and several shopping centers. Officials say at one site, the last voter cast a ballot after 10 PM.

Criticism is also coming from state Republican Party chief Michael McDonald.

But Democrat Hillary Clinton's campaign is dismissing the Nevada case in a Twitter message, calling it "a frivolous lawsuit."
