The suicide squad that attacked the Army camp at 12 Brigade headquarters in Uri carried along with their arms and ammunition a mission plan which was annotated in Pashto, highly placed sources said.

The Army is going to turn the heat on Pakistan along the 778-km Line of Control (LoC) with concentrated artillery barrages, sniping and other operations, even as a section of the Indian security establishment wants the government to also consider "limited but punitive cross-border strikes" to send an unequivocal message to Pakistan.

The security establishment is probing a two-point breach, first at the Line of Control (LoC) near Uri and the second at the perimeter of the Army base where the fencing wire was cut. These lapses helped suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad fidayeen -from the group's Afzal Guru brigade -access the Army camp.

Pakistan's PM Nawaz Sharif arrives in New York on Sunday intent on raising the Kashmir issue at the United Nations, where he is scheduled to address the general assembly on Wednesday.

Based on intelligence supplied by the Pakistan army-ISI combine and reconnaissance by local sympathisers, the terrorists seem to have mastered the technique of launching strikes during the turnover of battalions, when their guard is slightly down with the incoming unit yet to get "acclimatised" to the new terrain.

Some of the equipment carried by the terrorists who attacked Uri Army camp on Sunday morning had Pakistani markings on them, said Ranbir Singh, the Director General of Military Operations.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar was on Sunday briefed in Srinagar by army officials about the counter-operation in Uri where a deadly terror attack left 17 jawans dead and 20 injured. The minister also visited the injured jawans at the hospital.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday condemned the "outrageous" terrorist attack on an Army base at Uri and said India would thwart the "evil designs" of terrorists and their backers. "India will not be cowed down by such attacks, we will thwart the evil designs of terrorists and their backers," the President said, without naming Pakistan.

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Sunday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said his failure to tackle the situation in Jammu and Kashmir was responsible for the attack on an army camp near Uri.

BJP leader Ram Madhav today asserted that days of strategic restraint are over and suggested that "for one tooth, the complete jaw" should be the policy after the Uri terror attack. "The days of so-called strategic restraint are over. If terrorism is the instrument of the weak and coward, restraint in the face of repeated terror attacks betrays inefficiency and incompetence. India should prove otherwise," he said.
