Jay Bhanushali and Mahhi Vij announce separation: Why did the former couple keep their marriage a secret during intial years?

Jay Bhanushali and Mahhi Vij took to their social media handle to announce their separation in a joint statement. The couple was married for 14 years, and on January 4th, they announced that they are parting ways on amicable terms. For over a decade they gave couple goals, and their story of keeping their marriage a secret in the initial years, never went old.

Why did Jay Bhanushali and Mahhi Vij keep their marriage a secret?

Earlier it was believed that Jay and Mahhi kept their relationship and marriage a secret because of professional reasons. However, in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, they shared something different.


Mahhi was the first one to confess that she didn’t truly understand the reason. She said, “Ek toh I don’t like hiding things and all. Mujhe toh samajh hi nahi aata woh sab. (Firstly, I don’t like hiding things and all. I don’t understand all of that.)”

“But somewhere he was 26, and all his friends were unmarried,” Mahhi continued.

Jay then confirmed the same and unexplained it was more of peer pressure than professional reasons. “Kyunki hai na, main bada apne circle mein stud tha. Woh bolte the ki tu toh aakhri mein shaadi karega. Toh itna pressure daal diya tha. Toh maine bola ‘Ab yeh ladki jaane bhi nahi de sakta’. (Because, I was a stud in my friends circle. They used to say that I would be the last to get married. So, there was so much pressure on me. And I couldn’t let go off the girl as well,” he mentioned, adding, “Jay Bhanushali added, “Toh iske chakkar mein maine kar diya, aur phir isko bola ki batana nahi kisiko. (So, for Mahhi, I got married, and then I asked her to not tell anyone about our wedding.)”

“Today, we choose to part ways on a journey called life, yet we continue to have each other’s back. Peace, growth, kindness, and humanity have always been our guiding values,” shared Jay and Mahhi in a joint statement.

They promised to be friends and share custody of their kids and wrote, “For the sake of our children—Tara, Khushi, and Rajveer—we pledge to be the best parents, friends, and whatever else is necessary to do what’s right for them.”

The former couple also shared that they don't blame each other or anyone for the decision. Their note further adds, ”Though we are walking separate paths, there are no villains in this story, and no negativity attached to our decision. Before any conclusions are drawn, please know that we choose peace over drama and sanity above all else.”

“We continue to respect and support each other, remaining friends as we always have. We kindly ask for your love, respect, and understanding as we move forward,” concluded Jay and Mahhi.
