Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson home over a month ago, and continues to puzzle investigators and experts alike. A new theory is gaining traction, suggesting that more than one person could be behind the abduction.

Emerging theory of multiple suspects

Retired homicide detective Kurt Dabb believes the case points to involvement from two to four accomplices. As per a NewsWeek report, Kurt Dabb said, “It’s more than likely the home was canvassed prior, either by the kidnapper himself or an accomplice,” Dabb told Parade during an interview. “Whether or not they knew a camera was there was a culmination of their reconnoiter.”

He emphasized the complexity of the logistics. “I believe there are anywhere between two to four accomplices,” he said. “The logistics of something of this magnitude is too much for one person to handle in my professional opinion based on the facts as I know them right now.”

Key evidence from surveillance

Doorbell camera footage captured a masked and armed man outside Guthrie’s home before she vanished on February 1. The suspect spent about 40 minutes inside after disconnecting the camera around 1:45 a.m., with her pacemaker losing connection to her phone by 2:30 a.m.
Kurt Dabb analyzed the video and ruled out a simple burglary. “I see nothing different on the video than what is publicly known,” he said. “That being said, burglars don’t go to burglarize a house with a full backpack. This was a kidnapping.”

Investigators’ current focus

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has acknowledged the possibility of multiple people being connected, though it remains unconfirmed, according to E! News. Former FBI intelligence analyst Jennifer Doebler described the ongoing evidence analysis as meticulous.“They are likely working with both brick-and-mortar and online retailers that sell the backpack/clothing worn by the man in the video and following up on any and all leads that result,” Doebler explained. “For example, they could subpoena Amazon for every single purchase of the backpack worn by the man in the video over the past year, and then follow up on all those leads to identify every purchaser. While painstaking, this could be very fruitful.Guthrie’s health adds urgency, as she requires daily medication and faces serious risks without it, according to Nanos.
