If you are planning a visit to Venice, make sure you don’t sit on ‘spots’, where you are not supposed to! If you are found doing so, you might end up paying a fine (proposed) of up to €500 (about $588 and INR 42697.62). So yes, tourists really need to be careful from now on while roaming around in Venice on foot!
As per the new proposed regulation, for sitting in St. Mark’s Square and some other few areas around, tourists might end up paying a fine of €200 ($235, nearly INR 17064.53). Besides this, swimming in Venice canals and biking in city centre are also prohibited in the city. Another interesting bans on tourists in Venice is not to walk around the city in bathing suits and feeding pigeons!
The voting process on this proposed idea by city's mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, will take place in October. Venice has always been stern on maintaining the beauty of its place and these behavioural regulations are a part of city’s campaign #EnjoyRespectVenezia. The main aim of this campaign is to promote ‘sustainable tourism’ in the city to maintain and preserve its culture and tradition. So yes, be careful where you sit in Venice!
