Cyclone Jawad likely to hit Odisha and Andhra on Saturday; 95 trains cancelled

In breaking news, the East Coast Railway has cancelled as many as 95 trains for three days (from December 2 to 4) due to Cyclone Jawad. The railway is taking this as a precautionary measure for the safety of passengers.

The government of Odisha has told the collectors of 13 districts to start preparing the evacuation of the people. Teams of NDRF, ODRAF, and fire department personnel for rescue and relief operations are being prepared. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting earlier today to discuss cyclone-related preparations.
As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone will reach Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts on December 4. The storm is called Jawad (read as Jowad), and is named by Saudi Arabia.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall (64.4mm to 115.5mm in 24 hours) for Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayanagara districts of Andhra Pradesh for December 3 and 4.
An ‘orange’ alert has been issued for Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack and Nayagarh districts of Odisha.
