Trekkers and travellers can now look forward to making a trip in the Himalayan Mountains this month. In order to encourage winter and rural tourism in Ladakh, a 2-day Chadar trek festival is being hosted for the first time at the remote Nyrak village. The village located in Leh region, also serves as the base camps of the trek.
Various high officials will be gracing the event. Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Gyal P Wangyal, will be present on the inauguration day. Assistant Director, Tourism Department, Leh, Tsering Angmo, told the press that the local villagers had been insisting on organising a festival on the Chadar trek routes since the past two years. The concerned authorities granted their approval in 2019.
The Chadar Trek is thronged by several adventure lovers, trekkers and sports buffs in the peak of winter to put their fortitude in sub-zero temperatures. Reportedly, seven villagers situated on the Chadar route have collaborated to organise this festival. The fest will also offer participants an opportunity to know how the local villagers travel on foot for several days on the frozen Zanskar River.
