Roaming Rome

The way to conquer Rome is to march. Or walk, rather.
Word to the wise: The tiniest backstreets can be a gateway to meals with the biggest flavours in rustic, homemade cuisine.
The major areas of interest are all within easy walking distance of each other, while the River Tiber provides a picturesque path that dissects the city. The Tiber is also a suitably magnificent platform from which to view every generation of Roman architecture, including its many ancient bridges, all beautifully mirrored in its waters on a still day.

In fact, the more subtle delights of Rome can only be accessed by foot. Once you've seen the sights the corridors of Rome open themselves to the real explorers, who will find the true characters, hidden architectural gems and the finest foods in the city within a meandering web of tiny backstreets. Terracotta apartment buildings with Venetian shutters are laced to each other by washing lines. At only a few metres in width, you'll soon see why they made the original Fiat 500.
