Ivan Vazov National Theater isn’t famous among theatre enthusiasts only. Its imposing architecture and central location makes it one of the most prominent sites in the city of Sofia. The theater was built in 1904 by Viennese architects and named after the established Bulgarian author, Ivan Vazov. It was also the site of a popular theatrical school till it was bombed during Second World War. The building suffered some damage but it was refurbished and opened to the public. Its red and white façade brimming with figures from Greek mythology is perfect for a photograph or two.
Ivan Vazov National Theater boasts of multiple stages and has a lot to offer to theater connoisseurs. The main stage has 750 seats and even some of the smaller stages have seats for over a 100 people. It is famous for staging some of the country’s best opera. It also stages some rather acclaimed plays starring renowned actors from across Europe. If you intend to catch a production of your choice at the Ivan Vazov National Theater, then reserve tickets in advance as places run out weeks in advance.
