Documentary Arts Asia

Documentary Arts Asia (DAA) has been a staple of Chiang Mai’s art scene for years. In the midst of continuing to offer inspiring programs and creative services, they’ve even seamlessly changed locations. DAA’s new home base is close to the Arts and Cultural Center (number 11 on this list). Like everything DAA does, building this space became a team effort. Involving the whole community, they recruited volunteers to help construct an eco-friendly building made almost entirely from adobe bricks.
Although they have a new home, DAA still offers all of the high quality programs they’ve become known for, and more. Their weekly film night is a relaxing way to meet other cinephiles while watching great films (local and foreign; old and new). Innovative workshops are always happening here, DAA often brings in international instructors to teach students different visual mediums, like photography, videography, audio, and storytelling. Each February, DAA leads the charge with ‘F28 Month of Photography’ during which the entire city becomes a dynamic photography exhibition. Of course, the non-profit organisation also hosts some of the best photography exhibitions, featuring work by up-and-coming artists. They’re always looking for more volunteers, providing plenty of opportunity for those interested to get involved on a deeper level.
