Assam to host world’s first half marathon in Jalinga Tea Estate on Nov 18

Assam is going to host the world’s first half marathon in a carbon neutral tea estate. The said event will be held on November 18 at the Jalinga Tea Estate. It is located at a distance of around 35 km from Silchar, and is famed to be the largest organic tea garden in the country.
The said tea estate in Cachar district is all set to host more than 100 participants from all over the country and the world, who will be coming to take part in the event and experience the joy of running through the lush greenery and winding trails of the estate.

As per the latest news reports, around 100 participants have already registered for the said event and have confirmed to participate in the charity run. Also, around 25 participants from the overseas will be featuring in this event as well. The run will be divided into three categories, i.e., 5 KM, 10 KM and 21 KM inside the tea estate. Children will also be able to participate in this event, which will be of 1 KM and 3 KM.
Jalinga Tea Estate, spread across 650 ha, produces around 8.5 lakh kg of tea yearly. It is also known for exporting its produce to other nations, such as the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States of America, Italy, Belgium and Finland.
Director at Jalinga Tea Estate Ketan Patel, referring to this development, said that Jalinga wants to send out a positive message to the world that they do care for their workers and their children. He further mentioned that all the proceeds raised from the run will go to charity and toward making a home for autistic kids at Jalinga.
