Set amidst a picturesque backdrop of lush green and tropical trees along the bank of the Bhargavi River, Raghurajpur is an Indian village with a twist. Here, every household is involved in one or the other form of handicrafts. With just a little over 100 houses and a total of about 300 artisans, many of whom have been awarded national awards for their work, a stroll through the lanes can be a delightful experience. The Pattachitra paintings are a specialty here, aside from which there is a wide variety of items including alm leaf engravings, stone carvings, wood carvings, and wooden toys. Browse through the beautiful painted murals on the houses, get into conversation with the residents, learn about their art, see them at work and buy a few pieces for back home. Located around 15 kilometres from Puri, make a day of it.
