Asia’s biggest inland salt-water lagoon, Chilika Lake extends across the three districts of Puri, Ganjam and Khordha in Orissa, and is separated from the waters of the Bay of Bengal by a narrow neck of land. Located approximately 50 kilometres from Puri, the lake is dotted with many small islands of lush green natural beauty. There are 3 jetties to Chillika Lake, which is a major attraction especially during the winter months when flocks of migratory birds fly in. Don’t miss the sunset and sunrise here, aside from which, the sanctuary in Nalbana Island houses is home to several varieties of flora and fauna, and a the water sports complex at Barakul is a good spot for some adventure and fishing.
