Ramathra Fort’s charm lies in its beautifully designed suites and luxurious tents and its proximity to Ranthambore National Park, which is only 2 hours’ drive away. Poised over a hill, Ramathra Fort offers sweeping views of the tranquil surroundings, farms and the vast Kalisil Lake that is never dry and is a favourite haunt for the birds of the region. If you enjoy cycling, there are some great off-road trails to be explored. Walking around the villages and wilderness can also rejuvenate your weary soul. For a real taste of adventure, take a night safari into Kaila Devi National Park. The hosts and owners, Gitanjali and Ravi Rajpal, stay within the fort in a partially restored multi-storey palace. Ramathra is one of the towns in the Kalisil River Valley farming belt and is also close to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. The town owes its name to a legend that says Lord Rama tarried here awhile on his way to Lanka.
