If you seek an activity-filled sojourn into the Rajasthani heartland, look no further than Bhainsrorgarh Fort, a family-run boutique retreat in Chittorgarh district. The fort is perched on a cliff overlooking the serene Chambal River and at dusk, the terrace provides ethereal views of the surrounding landscape. During monsoons, Bhainsrorgarh is swathed in brilliant green canopied by a stream of rain clouds that make their way straight into your heart. For an enchanting holiday, take a trip to the 9th century Baroli temples, known for their Pratihara style of temple architecture. For lunch, head out to the dense forests of Hinglajgarh Fort or have a picnic lunch on a neighbouring island. Other activities include river safaris in country-made boats rowed by locals and evening explorations of the rural settlements. At Bundi, you can visit an excellent art centre and the Mukundarah Hills National Park. A day trip to Chittorgarh Fort is also highly recommended.
