Ubud is Bali’s most popular inland destination and in the recent years Ubud’s popularity has boomed, especially following the film ‘Eat, Pray, Love’. Ubud is a small town nestled in gorgeous rice paddies in Bali’s central highlands. It offers a refreshing escape from the beach resort scene. Ubud is the cultural heart of the island and has plethora of yoga school, spas, alternative therapies and vegetarian restaurants. It attracts different types of tourists to the main beach resorts and is very popular with culture vultures, artists, yogis, new age types and spiritual seekers. Almost everyone who visits Bali at least takes a day trip to Ubud to check out the stunning UNESCO listed rice terraces, temples and palaces, art and craft markets and the popular Monkey Forest.Ubud is home to some stunning 5 star resorts, luxury spas and retreats that often have stunning views over the rice terraces. There are plenty of cheap guest houses and mid-range hotels here. Ubud has many great cafes and dining options, especially vegan and vegetarian restaurants but not much of a nightlife scene.
